RESUMO

Introduction: Online psychotherapy is a form of work that is becoming more and more popular. Public health problems, such as COVID-19, forced mental health professionals and patients to incorporate new methodologies such as the use of electronic media and internet to provide follow-up, treatment and also supervision. The aim of this study was to investigate which factors shape the therapists' attitudes toward online psychotherapy during a pandemic taking into account: (1) attitudes toward the COVID-19 pandemic (fear of contagion, pandemic fatigue, etc.), (2) personal characteristics of the psychotherapists (age, gender, feeling of efficacy, anxiety, depression, etc.), and (3) characteristics of the psychotherapeutic practice (guideline procedure, client age group, professional experience, etc). Materials and methods: Study participants were 177 psychotherapists from four European countries: Poland (n = 48), Germany (n = 44), Sweden (n = 49), and Portugal (n = 36). Data were collected by means of an individual online survey through the original questionnaire and the standardized scales: a modified version of the Attitudes toward Psychological Online Interventions Scale (APOI), Fear of Contagion by COVID-19 Scale (FCS COVID-19), Pandemic Fatigue Scale (PFS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Social Support Questionnaire (F-SozU K-14), and the Sense of Efficiency Test (SET). Results: Determinants that impacted psychotherapists' attitudes toward online therapy were: COVID-19 belief in prevention-keeping distance and hand disinfection, pandemic behavioral fatigue, previous online therapy experience (including voice call), working with youth and adults. Our study showed that belief in the sense of prevention in the form of taking care of hand disinfection before the session, pandemic behavioral fatigue and experience in working with adults were significant predictors of negative attitudes of therapists toward online psychological interventions. On the other hand, belief in the sense of prevention in the form of keeping distance during the session had a positive effect on general attitudes toward therapy conducted via the internet. Discussion: The online therapy boom during the COVID-19 pandemic has spawned a powerful tool for psychotherapists. More research in this area and training of psychotherapists are needed for online psychological interventions to become an effective therapy format that is accepted by patients and therapists alike.

RESUMO

Modern commercial broiler is growing very rapidly and its amino acid requirement is not fulfilling. An experimental trial was conducted to study the effect of super-dosing of lysine in fish meal-based diets (50% fish meal and 50% SBM) on production performance, protein digestibility and economic efficiency in male and female broiler chickens. Four hundred and eighty (480) one-day-old male and female broiler chicks were divided into forty experimental units of 12 birds each. Five levels of dietary lysine i.e. 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130% of Ross-308 recommendation in male and female birds were separately used. Weight gain and feed intake were higher (p < 0.05) in birds received 100 and 110% recommended lysine than other levels. Feed conversion ratio and EPEF were improved (p < 0.05) in birds received 100% recommended lysine than other levels. Higher (p < 0.05) CP digestibility and lower production cost per kg live weight were noted for birds fed diet containing lysine 100, 110 and 120% than 90 and 130%. Male birds had higher (p < 0.05) WG, FI, EPEF, protein digestibility and lower production cost per kg live weight than female birds. In conclusion, lysine levels below 100% and above 110% of Ross recommended levels had poor production performance, protein digestibility and economic efficiency.

RESUMO

The present study was intended to prepare and optimize agomelatine-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (AGM-NLCs) for augmented in vivo antidepressant potential. AGM-NLCs were optimized on several parameters including cumulative hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of surfactants, proportions of solid and liquid lipids, total amounts of drug and surfactants. AGM-NLCs were assessed for their physicochemical properties, in vitro AGM release and in vivo antidepressant effects in mice model. The optimized AGM-NLCs demonstrated spherical morphology with average particle size of 99.8 ± 2.6 nm, PDI of 0.142 ± 0.017, zeta potential of - 23.2 ± 1.2 mV and entrapment efficiency of 97.1 ± 2.1%. Thermal and crystallinity studies depict amorphous nature of AGM after its incorporation into NLCs. AGM-NLCs exhibit a sustained drug release profile after initial 2 h. Mice treated with AGM-NLCs exhibited reduced immobility time in behavioral analysis. Furthermore, cresyl violet staining demonstrated an improved neuronal morphology and survival in AGM-NLCs group. The concentrations and the expression of inflammatory markers (TNF-α and COX-2) in mice brain were significantly reduced by AGM-NLCs. Taken together, therapeutic effectiveness of AGM was markedly augmented in AGM-NLCs and thereby they could be promising nanocarriers for the effective delivery of antidepressants to brain.

RESUMO

During the past two decades, the clinical use of biopharmaceutical products has markedly increased because of their obvious advantages over conventional small-molecule drug products. These advantages include better specificity, potency, targeting abilities, and reduced side effects. Despite the substantial clinical and commercial success, the macromolecular structure and intrinsic instability of biopharmaceuticals make their formulation and administration challenging and render parenteral delivery as the only viable option in most cases. The use of nanocarriers for efficient delivery of biopharmaceuticals is essential due to their practical benefits such as protecting from degradation in a hostile physiological environment, enhancing plasma half-life and retention time, facilitating absorption through the epithelium, providing site-specific delivery, and improving access to intracellular targets. In the current review, we highlight the clinical and commercial success of biopharmaceuticals and the overall applications and potential of nanocarriers in biopharmaceuticals delivery. Effective applications of nanocarriers for biopharmaceuticals delivery via invasive and noninvasive routes (oral, pulmonary, nasal, and skin) are presented here. The presented data undoubtedly demonstrate the great potential of combining nanocarriers with biopharmaceuticals to improve healthcare products in the future clinical landscape. In conclusion, nanocarriers are promising delivery tool for the hormones, cytokines, nucleic acids, vaccines, antibodies, enzymes, and gene- and cell-based therapeutics for the treatment of multiple pathological conditions.

RESUMO

With recent technological advancement, a major shift in the lifestyle of individuals has been observed. This change is more evident in youth in terms of sleep pattern changes and socialization. It is therefore important to assess the quality of life in this productive group of society. The protocol consisted of the Urdu version of the demographic questionnaires, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Cohen-Hoberman Inventory of Physical symptoms (CHIPS) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF). A total of 150 young adults (boys = 62, girls = 88) were included through convenience sampling. A significant positive association was found between poor sleep quality and health complaints (r = 0.53**). However, a significant negative association was found between poor sleep and quality of life in terms of physical health, psychological health, social relationships and the environment (r = -0.57**, -0.35**, -0.39**, -0.33**), respectively, which indicates the importance of sleep in determining quality of life. Furthermore, the majority of the participants (57%) reported good sleep quality and low health complaints [M = 15.08, standard deviation (SD) = 13.29] whereas 43% of participants reported poor sleep quality, more health complaints (M = 32.94, SD = 22.59) and poor quality of life. It shows that most of the participants are healthy and able to manage their daily routine, work commitment and provide services for country's development.

RESUMO

The unpredictable nature & elongated course of epilepsy affect all dimensions (physical, psychological, and social) of an individual's life. People with the diagnosis of epilepsy are a high-risk group for different psychiatric problems that is anxiety, depression as well as social problems (marriage, education, and daily activities). The findings of present research revealed high rate (70%) of psychological distress among fifty adult individuals with epilepsy. It was also found that people with uncontrolled epilepsy experience high level of psychological distress (100%) as compared to those with controlled (42%). Demographic and clinical factors associated with distress include lack of occupation, the presence of an underlying disabling condition (with treatment), and the severity of epilepsy. The finding generated here showed that 13 out of 19 females with epilepsy reported psychological distress. It was also found that none of these women was employed (a cultural specific phenomenon) with a slightly high number of unmarried females (74%). So by understanding the relationship between clinical and psychosocial variables, a good management plan can be devised with a focus on social and gender differences. The present research can also help to increase the awareness and to lower the stigmatization related to epilepsy.
